Speech Therapy is more than just flashcards and coloring pages. Effective therapy has to be child-oriented, which means we have to have fun. We also have to use successful, evidence-based therapy to target the skills that are going to give the child maximum success in improving their communication, and, in so doing, their connection! After 25 years in the therapy room, I want to bring all that I've learned into creating success-oriented resources for SLPs, their clients, and their families.
In addition to providing quality services to my students in WCPSS, and my clients privately, I hope to build a platform of materials, continuing education, and consultation services that supports my fellow pediatric speech therapists, and provides effective resources to enhance the services we provide and help even more children achieve successful communication.
With over 25 years of experience as a pediatric speech-language pathologist in both the private practice and school setting, I can tackle just about anything, including articulation disorders, receptive-expressive language disorders, language disorders related to Autism Spectrum Disorders, late talkers, and fluency disorders. My specialty is motor-speech planning disorders, including Childhood Apraxia of Speech, and treatment-resistant R and lisps.
Sometimes families and caregivers just aren't sure if there's really a concern worth evaluating. It's okay! I'm happy to meet with you and your child to talk over your concerns and help you understand what to look for, and what to expect, as your child's speech and language skills develop.
Successful speech therapy starts with a comprehensive evaluation that addresses articulation, receptive language, expressive language, pragmatics, fluency, and voice. Consultation with the family and other important caregivers in the child's life is also critical to identifying critical skill needs and developing a success-oriented plan. Once the evaluation is complete, if direct speech intervention is recommended, we will work together to create goals for our treatment plan that will maximize your child's progress and success.
First and foremost, treatment sessions should be child-centered and FUN. Caregivers are encouraged to participate as they are able and the child tolerates. I strive to maximize time spent working on skills, but in a playful way that understands and pushes a child's limits just enough. We use a LOT of toys and games, but every minute is a minute working toward our goals of building better communication!
Do you have a group of SLPs that wants to learn how to treat R more effectively or efficiently? Are you struggling making progress with your lateral lisp clients? Have me come out for a fun and informative workshop filled with immediately applicable treatment strategies rather than useless fluff. Contact me to discuss your needs and develop a workshop specifically designed for your group.
Are you a local SLP that is struggling with a particularly challenging articulation student or client? Dreading that R kid on Thursdays at 2:15? Reach out! I'd love to see if I can help get you on the path to success.

Yes. Depending on your location, in-home services may be available. Services can also be provided in-office, or at your child's school or daycare if permitted.
I am fortunate to work with a local private practice, Leaps and Bounds, to provide access to services for clients covered under the following carriers: Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, CIGNA, Aetna, TRICARE, Medcost and Medicaid. Having a plan through one of these carriers does NOT guarantee that speech services will be covered. You can contact me so that we can check your benefits and provide you with a best estimate of your coverage. Your insurance carrier will ultimately determine coverage and provide you with an EOB. For those with poor or limited coverage for speech therapy services, or who have a different insurance carrier, I offer a cash-pay rate that is competitive with other providers in the area.
I have held a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association since 1999. I have held a NC speech therapy license since 2007. I have received additional advanced training in the following treatment techniques and modalities: PROMPT technique for articulation therapy, PECS (Pictures Exchange Communication Program), Orton-Gillingham, and Visualizing & Verbalizing. I have worked in private practice as a pediatric speech-language pathologist for over 25 years, and joined the Wake Country Public Schools speech therapy team in 2022. I have supervised dozens of graduate interns and clinical fellows, and have provided mentorship to countless speech therapists over the years. I have taught several clinical workshops to my peers in language, literacy, and articulation.
Speech SOS is my new Teachers Pay Teachers store, which I will be filling with effective and easy-to-use resources for providing successful and efficient treatment for your clients. Click the link below to follow my store and be notified of new resources as they are uploaded to the store!
